LANAI

Lanai is the sixth-largest of the Hawaii Islands. It is also known as the Pineapple Island because it was used to be an island with wide pineapple plantation. The only town is Lanai City, a small settlement. This is separated from the island of Molokai by the Kalohi Channel to the north, and from Maui by the Au au Channel to the east. Many of the island's landmarks and sites are located off dirt roads where four-wheel drive is required. Lanai has been divided in 13 subdivisions, which were grouped into two districts: Kona and Koolau.
More information about Lanai:
· It was formed about 1.5 million years ago by the volcano Palawai. The Island is currently 140 square miles in size.
· The Lodge at Ko’ele hosts a “visiting artists” program throughout the year, with a varying schedule of lectures and performances by world-renowned musicians, artists, chefs and more.
· Lana’s official flower is the kaunaoa (yellow and orange air plant).
· The Island’s official color is orange.
